Chickens burned alive in China because of the bird flu ''outburst''... Absolutely outrageous! Please, do something!

These horrors happen because of greedy humans breeding and using these animals for ''profit'' and because of those who buy animal products. If everyone ate an animal-products-free diet, and didn't use animals for any other purpose, none of these horrors would happen. Signing petitions can sometimes make a difference, yes.

NNCC Wild Horse Adoption Event a Success (reprint from Horseback Magazine,)

On Saturday May 18 the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City Nevada held an adoption/auction of wild horses trained by inmates.

The wild horses trained by inmates were taken from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) ranges. All wild horses were adopted through a bidding process and fall under the requirements of BLM adoptions.

This week NBC news covered the story of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wild horse and burro program. Laura Leigh, founder of WildHorseEducation.org, spent a few days with the producer and opened up her library of more than 500 days of attendance to roundups in the last three years alone. Leigh also supplied NBC with court rulings, BLM documents and vet reports.

The end to LOKI’s freedom is drawing close and funds are needed to purchase the needed dog run and to cover the initial veterinary costs for his vaccinations and eventual neutering.

The logistics of his capture have yet to be figured out as there is no resident vet in Hay River, and I am unsure if tranquilizer gun is even available here.

Due to my continued work with him, and out of respect for and a sympathetic gesture, I was immediately contacted with the news that he must be removed from the streets. I of course will take him here to my home, to care and give him a loving home for the rest of his days. If I do not do this then the Town Officials will step in and likely LOKI will not survive.

We continue to be inundated with high cost television ads touting the benefits of continued Oil Sands development and expansion. Our tax dollars fuel the placement of this advertisement. We continue to have our own Canadian researchers allegedly gagged when new findings need to be revealed to the public.

To quote a recent article in the Northern Journal, one of the best publications, at least in my opinion, that comes out of Canada’s Arctic region and which has no fear of presenting the truth to its readers:

“Fish deformities in Alberta,US linked to oil pollution: scientist”

Excerpts are taken from the article written by Meagan Wohlberg in the Northern Journal, Vol.36 No.48

“Renowned scientist David Schindler says deformities found on fish in the Athabasca River..are remarkably similar to those found on fish in the Gulfs of Mexico and Alaska following devastating oil spills.”

Schindler, a scientist with the University of Alberta, helped to link ‘carcinogenic contaminants found in the nearby snowpack in northeastern Alberta’ to the ‘oilsands upgraders’.

Schindler stated in his letter to Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment and Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, according to the Northern Journal:

“Given the parallels in the cases from various locations, it seems likely that some chemical or suite of chemicals in crude oil is causing the malformations.” Here he is referring to the “remarkable similarities” (abnormalities) found on the fish found in the Athabasca River as well as in the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe and as well in the Gulf of Alaska after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Deformities in fish found in the Great Lakes within the areas where there is heavy industrialization also points at the poisonous effect of industrial waste contaminants .

Schindler has also requested that the outdoor lab (The Experimental Lakes Area in northwestern Ontario (ELA) be kept open as it is under threat of closure due to the decision of the Federal Government to cut the $2M yearly funding it receives. The only outdoor lab of its kind in the world, has been shut down temporarily in March, while the Feds are looking for ‘a new group to take it over’ according to the Northern Journal.

According to Schindler, Environment Canada scientists do a very good job of monitoring the river, however, as Mr. Schindler also states “it will be impossible to determine which chemicals are responsible for the malformations in the complex chemical soup downstream of oilsands mining.”

These PAH’s : “polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, alkylated derivatives or closely related dibenzothiphenes” are “suspected or known to cause cancer, mutations or deformities in embryos and are linked to immune suppression.”

With the gutting of Environmental Protection in Canada, our waterways and land, our environment period, is now suffering the consequences. Open Season on the Traditional Way of Life for First Nations, and the overall Canadian environment/heritage appears to have been declared and the legacy to be left for future generations is at best questionable.

Bloggers Note: Co-founder of ForestEthics, Tzeporah Berman, is quoted in this article as saying “With the majority of profits from the tar sands operations flowing to foreign companies, we need to ask in whose interest is the Government of Canada under Prime Minister Harper serving?”

15 oil companies were looked at in the review, nine have headquarters in Canada and ForestEthics found that over 50% of all nine of these headquartered in Canada are actually owned by foreign interests.

Excerpt: ” The study also found that over (51.1 percent) of all oil and gas operating revenue in Canada went to foreign entities, such as China. According to Skuce, Canada is quickly becoming China’s “resource colony.””

Pichou has been in a shelter which is in a pitiful condition and technically shut down . He has been there for OVER one year. He spends hours and hours alone; just a volunteer a couple of times a week to feed him and clean his kennel. A few words from Pichou: Hi, have you ever felt you got the blame for something that was not totally your fault? Hmmm, I think I have. I am stuck in a shelter which they say is in a pitiful condition. I’m told I look ‘great and seem friendly” but that I am unpredictable because my story has taken a toll on me. Boy, do I ever want out of this shelter to be given a chance to show them! My friend Rosa got out the other day. I am so happy for her as she was stressed as well and had stopped eating due to something they called ‘depression’. I think I may have it because I am stressed being here. If I could go on walks, outings, see different things, meet people, go to obedience classes and be trained by an experienced / professional so I could improve my behaviour, boy, that would be my dream. Could you please make my dream come true? I could be trained to know food doesn’t have to be guarded as it wouldn’t be taken away from me by other dogs or people. I am not good with cats as I have a high prey drive and not good with children. Could you take me to a new owner or rescue that could help to what they call “rehabilitate” me, where I could go for walks and outings, see more people and scenery on a regular basis, someone to trust and love . Boy that is my dream and I keep dreaming it!

A few words from his volunteer: Pichou deserves a chance. He has been in this awful shelter far too long, since November 2011. When you factor in the long hours spent alone, minimal people contact, no outings, walks, exercise, regular routine, nothing different to see, no-one to trust or love him, plus the fact that he gets minimum time to be fed and clean his cage, it’s no wonder he is unstable and doesn’t trust or respect new people. Only one person has worked with him, trying different things. Its a trust issue for Pichou, he has no one he can trust, no one who truly loves him and shows him love and respect. Its sad to know from one volunteer who saw him over a year ago, that he was at that time, he was the happiest dog to be rescued. Now one year later, with other dogs coming and going, some who he got along with and some not, the isolation, it has all taken a toll on him. He needs a miracle to find the right person to work with him as he is not trustworthy in his present state. Miracles do happen, right? Pichou’s history helps to understand why he is who he is now. He needs someone with whom he can learn to trust again. We desperately need to find this special person which is why we are knocking at your door. Let us know if you want to meet Pichou. Weekend update on Loki and his BFF

Being off on Wednesday and Friday afternoons is now something that I enjoy. It allows me extra time to spend with family (Mom and the furballs). It also allows me to spend more time with LOKI and any of his friends that accompany him.

Sarg and Loki were here quite awhile Friday. I heard my boys barking while they were outside and looking out my back window, poor Sarg had gotten trapped in some very deep snow in the ravine behind my home and he could not get out.

Loki was with him, and was trying to help lift him by using his nose and head. The more Sarg struggled the deeper he sank and Loki was very upset. Sarg is about 14 years old. Sarg looked exhausted. The snow remains up to my own waist in that area.

I hurried and got dressed to go out back to help while mom gently coaxed Sarg and Loki thru my bedroom window.

By the time I got outside, both Loki and Sarg were in my driveway. Loki had managed to get Sarg out. The love and loyalty these two have for each other is a lesson to all of humanity.

I took out fresh water and chunks of rollover for them both. Sarg had a long drink and I could tell he was tired out. I gave a little rollover to him and he laid with his head on my lap while Loki ate. I was outside with them almost an hour.

While LOKI lounged in my driveway, keeping a watchful eye on his buddy, Sarg stretched out on my deck when I went inside and LOKI stayed with him. He would not leave is friend and I made frequent trips back outside myself.

They were here about 2 1/2 hours together. I was so scared for Sarg, at that age he could have had a heart attack.

Needless to say I now keep a very watchful eye on that area near my backyard.

Truly these two beautiful animals have bonded in a way that is priceless. The younger LOKI being so diligent and concerned with the welfare of his elder friend and companion.
