Canadian Wild Horse Foundation has launched a Federal Petition

For Immediate Release
Canadian Wild Horse Foundation (CWH) launches Federal Petition: Alberta Wild Horses. “Heritage Animal”
Canadian Wild Horse Foundation (CWH) has launched a federal petition, which will be submitted to the Canadian House
of Commons August 2013. The petition urges the Government of Canada to protect the wild horses of Alberta by
designating them a “Heritage Animal”. The campaign to save Albertaʼs wild horses is actively supported by both local and
international equine enthusiasts and celebrity.

Today, the wild horses of Alberta fall under the “Stray Animals Act” which classifies them as feral and leaves them
severely unprotected under the Law. They are at serious risk of having their herd(s) population fall below the required
numbers needed to sustain the natural balance of a healthy gene pool. These horses have an abundance of natural
predators and harsh living conditions to contend with and are now forced to survive government licensed trapping that not
only send these magnificent animals into the slaughterhouses for human consumption but also seriously risk the future of
Albertaʼs wild horse herds. According to ESRD (Alberta Environment & Sustainable Resource Development) between
December 2011 and February 2012 there were 216 wild horses captured through a possible 237 permit licenses
distributed by the ESRD. This was a record high cull.

Wild horses have roamed Albertaʼs Crown land for hundreds of years. They are born, live and die in the wild; they are not
a stray-animal. They have contributed to the natural eco-system for centuries and are an integral part of it. It is time we let
them live wild and free, so that future generations will be able to appreciate not only their contribution to our countries
history but their beauty in a natural environment.

Many Canadianʼs are unaware of the wild horseʼ existence and their immense contribution to the history of Canada. CWH
is working to change this. CWH believes it is of the utmost importance to protect the iconic wild horse herds of Alberta
before it is to late. The federal petition is in response to concerned citizens who have initiated letters, emails and phone
calls to political bodies that have fallen on deaf ears.

CWH is urging all Canadians to support the cause to save our wild horses by signing the federal petition available for
download on CWH Facebook, Google+ Linked In and You Tube Profiles.

Renown author of “The Wild Horse Conspiracy”, Mr. Craig Downer will be presenting in London ,Ontario, CANADA next month and I urge any and all of you who are fighting to save both American and Canadian horses from the horrors found in slaughterhouses to attend.  Believe me you will find his presentation enlightening as well as thought provoking and it will light your fire to act in a very positive direction to preserve this heritage species, and to put an end to the Canadian participation which enables the war on both US and Canadian horses.

I feel very privileged to work with all who fight so diligently to ensure that wild equines as well as  domesticated horses do not continue to face the never ending harassment and the houses of horror called slaughter plants.

Craig has dedicated himself to the Saving of Wild Horses and Burros in the U.S. and has revealed the truth about just what these magnificent horses and burros face in their never ending battle to remain alive and free.

FOREVER WILD AND FREE

Speech for Wild Horse Summit, Las Vegas, NV, Oct. 12, 2008, organized by ISPMB

Though the horse family is endangered world wide, wild horses and burros on public land remain on the very bottom of the totem pole of priorities of both the Bureau of Land Management & U.S. Forest Service.  These are the two agencies charged by law with protecting & managing them.  These two “national heritage species,” have rights to live free that are covered by the unanimously passed Public Law 92-195 and that are supported by many millions of ordinary U.S. citizens as well as people worldwide.  For these and other sundry reasons, the extent of livestock grazing and the number of permittees involved both in the original Herd Areas and in reduced Herd Management Areas should be clearly spelled out to the public – but this is not currently the case!

The poster below was sent to me via Craig and with permission I am including it in this Blog post.Craig Downer London ON visit

I have also included links to prior posts which I have on this Blog, all related to the continuing fight to end horse slaughter.    To see all posts, just type in wildhorses into the search box at the top right of the Blog page.

Note the Canadian Horse Defense Coalition is very active here in Canada and has published many articles on their own site as well.

Did you know that the Japanese also import live horses from Canada, to slaughter in their own country???  These animals are enclosed in containers so cramped they cannot move and then set sail over open seas to Japan.

Recent scandals in the EU whereby horse meat was sold in various food products to unsuspecting consumers, the EU has banned the import of horsemeat from the US.  Canada however continues to accept US wild horses into this country for slaughter and shipping horse meat out of Canada.

BLM – Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse Roundups Lack Oversight for Animal Welfare

The reality of our wild horses NEEDS OUR ACTION and INVOLVEMENT now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK6WM1-xmv4

People fear the press release may be lip service. See below.  Please prove otherwise. The record shows little real exposure for this crisis. Many people feel that HSUS donors deserve to know. Especially during this holiday time.. when people are targeted to donate to “give love” etc. The public is your backbone for a possible national educational campaign. We know the horrors are real, the cruelty is real and the numbers are inflated. HSUS must act now before more irreversible damage is done.

Most of HSUS donors across the US do not know what is done to our wild horses and burros. Who could educate better than you ? We want the plight of mustangs and your concerns to reach the general public with newsletters, links on website and educational materials with real footage and incidents as they DO go down,  to be included. Millions could be reached, millions who know nothing about this tragedy. It lies much deeper than horses - if you have not read the book by Craig Downer, “The Wild Horse Conspiracy”, please do so. It will tell the tale of the West, and the reality of the last 4 decades. Even those who worked for BLM once, would be amazed to learn the truth. It is not a work of fiction or staged on personal greedit is the truth and it is time for the truth to be accepted and live up to your name.

We must all work together to save one of our most Sacred & Natural Resources…The American Wild Horses!  Horses are our Natural Heritage & Legacy, and should share a place with the American Eagle as our National Symbol!  Think for a moment where this country would be if it had not been for Horses!  It surely doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out…WE WOULD NOT BE THE COUNTRY WE ARE TODAY!  So, let’s not serve up our Horses on dinner plates, so that other countries can eat them!  Please, let us ALL Work together for a common goal…Saving the American Wild Horses!

Please maintain the pressure and demand change now, tell the real story to Americans – it’s been hidden too long. A turn around only comes from true willingness to achieve it. The challenge is big, yet HSUS is a powerhouse that can help in this mission. It is time – as you noted, the horrors go on, and the hasty evictions do too. BLM needs to be held accountable in a society of 21st century, civilized values – not get away with constant unacceptable deceptive tactics, lies and methods that remind of indifferent savagery.

HSUS : Tell  America what is really going on. We all feel this could be the puzzle piece adding the momentum needed in this mission. HSUS ought to cater to the animals’ needs in question here, not the propaganda by those who inflict their suffering and plight. After all, BLM didn’t even meet your PZP expectations in your dealings with them. No time to lose, this is now most urgent. Your latest newsletter reached my inbox. “Give Love”… I agree.

Thank you for your time.

Wild Horse escapes containment pen and continues to run with his dangling broken leg.

Video and email sent to me via my Colorado contact who submitted same to BLM with her below comments.

“ No matter what we work for or on whose side we are – this link shows a horse running with a broken leg during a round up. We know accidents happen. But this is bad. You can’t possibly blow this off as just another bad luck event in the minority ? If your wranglers are so professional as your agency claims, this would not happen. Trap pens would be better designed. There is a problem when horses break their necks and legs like this.  For God’s sake, this must stop, Tom ! This is America, not the third world of savagery – BLM has got to stop this cruel treatment and find better ways to prevent this. To you it’s just a statistic, to this horse, it was his life, his freedom. He suffered horribly and I cannot fathom the fact that anyone within your agency can allow such horrid mishaps. BLM must improve – are we at least agreeable on this one part ???  And better sooner than later. We have been waiting ! Please respond.  “

http://canadianhorsedefencecoalition.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/chdc-reposts-proof-of-cfia-failure-phenylbutazone-positive-horse-sent-to-slaughter-and-through-the-food-chain/

As the world, and especially the horse world, watches as the horsemeat scandal unfolds in Europe and the U.K., the CHDC is reposting “Proof of CFIA Failure“, the story of Silky Shark, a Standardbred racehorse who was slaughtered and slipped through the system to dinner plates, when his carcass should have been condemned due to phenylbutazone contamination.

Canada’s Bloody Secret is that this country enables the mass brutality and inhumane treatment of both US and Canadian horses. Why, because it is a multimillion dollar industry, fueled by greed and a total disregard for life. The US banned their own equine slaughter plants many years ago, so Canada took up the opportunity to make money by importing tens of thousands of US horses destined for slaughter and horse meat exportation to Europe. Our own wild horses face the same total disregard and what few wild numbers are being exterminated because they have no protection and are considered feral vermin. Retired racehorses, competition horses are all now part of the growing horse meat industry.

With former Ontario PremierMcGuinty’s closure of Ontario racetracks that number of equine victims has increased, these horses contain toxic medicines administered during their racing and competitive careers that make the meat unfit for human consumption. The EU has already launched a full scale investigation into consumer fraud against companies within the EU that have failed to advise consumers that horse meat is often the prime ingredient in their products.

Regardless of the contaminants, horses continue to be exploited by any and all means possible at the hands of the greedy, self justified pro-slaughter advocates, who disregard the legal lands given to and what little protection there is for horses across the US and Canada.

Canada continues to bloody her hands and will continue to do so on this issue, just as she stains herself with the blood of murdered seals and by importing cat/dog fur products from China.

Until such time as Private Members Bills that are brought before the House of Commons demanding increased and strengthened Animal Protection Laws for this country no longer get defeated in their Second Reading (and there have been so many) nothing will change in this country. It is a total ongoing disgrace period!!! Shameful to a degree that cannot be described in words!!

Over a month ago I announced via FaceBook that I was, after long hard thought, retiring from advocacy.  Perhaps I used the wrong terminology, sabbatical is the term I should have used.  Suffering from Compassion Fatigue, I need a break, the length of which is unknown.

Anyone who is bombarded on a daily basis with the continued horrors inflicted upon animals, anyone who must physically clean up the mess left behind by irresponsible pet owners, administer care to the abandoned and the suffering, anyone who works in shelters and vet hospitals will in time go through Compassion Fatigue.  Similar to Post Trauma Stress Disorder, the effects of Compassion Fatigue can be and are devastating.

Despite the need for peace and respite from advocacy there are issues that continue to eat at my soul, no inner peace can be found as long as animals suffer at the hands of man.

I received this email just the other day from Sinika, with the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition, and with her permission have copied and pasted it below.

Canada continues the blood bath in the equine slaughter plants in this country.  Canada continues to enable the horrific BLM roundups of wild horses in the US by importing these animals for slaughter into our country.

We all thought that the recent XL Meat scandal was bad enough.  We learned how our Canadian Food Inspection Agency dropped the ball on that one.  Well the CFIA continues to drop the ball, by not effectively and efficiently monitoring horse slaughter in this country, and by allowing contaminated horse meat to be exported from this country.  But really, think about it, can we expect anything less, after what we have already learned?

Once you have read Sinika’s  email, please take the time to visit this additional  link below regarding ‘Animal Angels’ Investigation of  the “Bouvry’s Slaughter Pipeline”. “Bouvry Exports operates one of the largest horse slaughter plants in Canada approved to export horse meat to the EU. Bouvry Exports owns about 2000 acres of land near Fort Macleod, where they fatten US and Canadian horses in large feedlots.”

Warning the pictures which are exposing this horrendous inhumane treatment of horses awaiting slaughter are very graphic.

http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=whxo74bab&v=001rfHpJW7JhgDr8qwFNDbXg9Pu9-IzZcEd7xgB8eBrxCjUoheS_2QY-8GOquJ-4WBdFdNJaacsldVMviXrVCbFa4AZZ7i32KMc3B_FLV8mlryiahf_PcKjTGPWxg9wJVzu3qZCw_0JtgRgCZ91IxGbsqFVIljvA04MDFO1YByYstl7dog3Npbd-7HZs-HjCMuEMA0DRiV22etN6gBwoP8nKfLMBsUF5cKSoOCHNnQtFHUmdWSHOAa1ke7TlEZd83Z6

We cannot allow the continuation of such inhumane treatment to continue.  We all know about the Factory Farms, we all know about the Puppy and Kitten Mills, we all know about the Dog Fighting Rings, the Racing Industry, the Circuses and the Rodeos….but more must be done to end the equine slaughter for profit and greed and the exploitation of lands established as protected areas for wild horses, we must all put an end to the Canadian export of tainted meat unfit for human consumption, and any and all Canadian imports of products into this country from the cruel exploitative practices of other nations against animals.

The Life and Death of Silky Shark, a Racehorse

In July 2011, a Standardbred U.S. racehorse named Silky Shark died in a Quebec slaughterhouse.

The Canadian Horse Defence Coalition tracked the evidence, showing that Silky Shark had been administered phenylbutazone (a deadly drug that must never enter the food chain) and subsequently slipped through the system undetected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Jack Rodolico of Latitude News has produced an exemplary account of the fate of this beautiful horse - Silky Shark’s life in the racing industry, how he fell through the cracks, and what chilling implications his death holds in terms of animal protection and food safety.

THIS LETTER TO SUPPORTERS FIGHTING TO SAVE WILD HORSES IN THE U.S.;  TO END THE BRUTAL B.L.M ROUNDUPS AND TO END HORSE SLAUGHTER BOTH IN CANADA AND MEXICO, TO BAN SLAUGHTER HOUSES IN CANADA…..is published here with the permission of Craig C. Downer
Please read this most important post.  Lives are at stake here!!!!!!  Please support and help save thee magnificent animals.  Thank you
October 29, 2012
Dear Wild Horse and Burro Supporters:
As a professional wildlife ecologist, I have prepared a proposal that would develop a solid alternative to the present mistreatment of
our nation’s wild horses and burros.  This is attached here for your consideration.
Given support for this, I would employ my knowledge and investigative skills in a serious and dedicated manner in order to thoroughly formulate and effectively present a realistic plan for the implementation of Reserve Design for naturally self-stabilizing, genetically viable and ecologically well-adapted populations of wild horses and burros where they belong throughout America.
This professional report and proposal would provide the kind of well-founded approach that is needed to achieve meaningful and long-lasting reform of our nation’s wild horse and burro program. It would identify specific regions where Reserve Design can be most successful and outline
the steps required to make this a reality.  Our government’s wild horse and burro program has and continues to ignore the true intent of the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, among other mutually supportive laws.
I would appreciate your carefully reading of my proposal and letting me know if you would be willing to support this project or know of someone who would.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Best  Wishes, Sincerely,
Craig C. Downer

Unless urgent action is taken, wild horses and burros in today’s America face a bleak future.

Though the unanimously passed Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 (WFRHBA) originally set aside around 88 million acres for their preservation in the wild, the rights of these animals and of their public supporters have been undermined and denied by the very officials charged with protecting them.

Current policies toward these national heritage species are thinly disguised plans for either bringing them down to cripplingly low, non-viable population levels or for totally eliminating them from their legal areas. Even if some 30,000 wild horses and burros remain on the public lands, this figure is in no way commeasurable with the amount of ecologically appropriate habitat in which they have the legal right to live. The small number of horses and burros our government intends to leave on each of the 200-or-so remaining designated areas will result – indeed, has already begun to result – in an over fragmentation of populations that jeopardizes their long-term survival.

Our government’s current goal of drastically reducing already tiny and genetically vulnerable wild herds includes the partial sterilization of mares, through PZP injection,   and the unnatural skewing of sex ratios to establish excess males in this naturally harem- type horse society. Today, our nation’s last remaining wild horses and burros find themselves in a very critical situation.  They are actually more imperiled than they were in 1971, for their chief enemies reside within the very agencies charged with their protection!

To remedy this intolerable situation, Americans must immediately and audaciously respond with a well-conceived plan for change.  As a wildlife ecologist and fourth-generation Nevadan personally familiar with the wild horses and burros of the West, I have come up with such a plan – a way to restore these animals, known as returned-native species, to viable natural herds throughout the West.  My plan entails ending the cruel, disruptive roundups and reproductive manipulations – practices that make a mockery of the 1971 Act and, of principal concern, cause untold suffering and death to these freedom-loving creatures.

Wildlife, wilderness and conservation professionals call this strategy Reserve Design.  Reserve Design combines ecological, social, and political considerations in order to achieve desired results. Basically, wild horse/burro Reserve Design involves the setting aside of areas of wild-equid-containing, year-round habitat where human intervention is buffered against and strictly controlled, and where natural processes are allowed to reestablish natural checks and balances. In this way, a significant degree of internal harmony is achieved for all diverse yet interrelated species living in the area’s ecosystem.

Critical steps for realizing Reserve Design to be described in the project are:

[1] Properly identify the short-term and long-term survival requirements of the principal species to be accommodated in the reserve.  Our chief focus would be to promote a wild horse/burro-containing ecosystem, where all species are allowed to adapt naturally over the generations.

[2] Conscientiously identify appropriate geographical areas suitable for the implementation of wild horse/burro-containing reserves. This would involve travel to a wide variety of places throughout the West.

[3] Wisely incorporate natural equid predators, such as puma and wolf, that would both limit and tone, or strengthen, wild horse and burro populations.

[4] Wisely incorporate natural barriers that would limit the ingress and/or the egress of certain species, including the wild horses and burros.  This would avoid conflicts and set up conditions for the natural self-regulation of populations.

[5] Identify where buffer zones, artificial barriers, or other means of impeding movements in and out of a reserve should be established in order to keep the species in question from coming into conflict with humans. Buffer zones possibly involving non-injurious means of adverse conditioning could be employed.  Also, “semi-permeable barriers” that do not restrict most species but do prevent equids from passing out of the reserve may be used.

[6] Identify the presence and abundance of necessary food, water, shelter, mineral procurement sites, elevational gradients for seasonal migrations, etc., that will accommodate the long-term needs of viable wild equid populations and allow the natural rest-rotation of grazing and foraging between the natural subdivisions of the reserve.

[7] Identify geographical regions whose human inhabitants are benignly disposed toward the creation and long-term
implementation of extensive, ecologically balanced wild horse/burro-containing reserves.  This would involve travel and town meetings.

[8] Identify ways of and benefits from implementing Reserve Design that would result in win-win relationships centered around the presence of wild horses and burros. Ecotourism is one major possibility here. Restoring native ecosystems, including soils and native species, would be another major benefit. The reduction of flammable vegetation through equid grazing and the restoration of hydrographic basins through enrichment of soils would be other positive contributions. Indeed, the restoration of the “equid element” in North America is crucial to combating life-disrupting global warming itself.

[9] Identify how best to educate the public concerning the many ways that horses/ burros, as ecological “climax” species, have of self-limiting their own populations once their respective ecological niches are filled. This knowledge is key to our realizing a truly humane relationship with wild horses and burros in America.

This list does not exhaust all the considerations for soundly establishing the Reserve Design that I would include in my professionally researched report with proposal. If provided the financial resources (requested at the end of this initial proposal), I would further elaborate upon this important and timely plan.

Basic steps for a professional reserve design, with associated costs and durations:

[1] Review literature on Reserve Design. Consult government, private and non-profit organizations. Research university, government, and public libraries as well as the internet.

[2] Consult authorities on Reserve Design and consult official implementers of nature reserves. Visit government and university offices and conduct interviews, particularly of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the United States Forest Service (USFS). Universities to be visited: University of California-Berkeley, Stanford University, Colorado State University-Ft. Collins, University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Nevada-Reno. (Note: I received my A.B. from UC-Berkeley and my M.S. from UN-Reno, and am a lifetime alumni at both.) Visit United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) offices, particularly national wildlife refuges (NWR) containing or involving wild horses, especially Sheldon-Hart NWR in northern Nevada and southern Oregon and Malheur NWR in southeastern Oregon. My visit to the Malheur would be in combination with a visit to the Steen Mountain National Conservation Area. This is home to the famous Kiger mustang herd that spills east into the Alvord Desert. I would visit the Montgomery Pass wild horse herd on the Nevada-California border near Bishop, the Cibola-Trigo and Cerbat wild horse herds in Arizona, and Utah’s Sulphur wild horse herd. The first two herds are believed by many to be naturally self-stabilizing. National Parks offices and the parks themselves that have a history or actual presence of wild horses and burros would also be visited. These would include Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and eastern California portions of the Mojave Desert and the National Conservation Area here. Also included would be Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, for its authentic old Indian pony herd. Various non-profit groups would be consulted, especially the International Society for the Preservation of Mustangs & Burros in Lantry, South Dakota, in combination with my trip to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, The Cloud Foundation of Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range, and Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Wyoming and Montana.

[3] Intensive survey of maps and documents concerning BLM and US Forest lands as well as other appropriate – especially adjoining – land where wild horses and burros are presently found or could reasonably be established per Section 6 of the WFHB Act. This phase will identify those regional centers of actual or potential wild horse/burro presence that would be most appropriate for Reserve Design. I would consult with those most familiar with regions being considered as appropriate for Reserve Design.

Duration for Phases 1, 2 & 3: Two months.

[4] Final composition of Reserve Design proposal. This would subsequently be presented to the public and to government as well as private entities. I would give presentations to legislative and executive branches of both state and national governments as well as to the BLM and the USFS, the two agencies charged with carrying out the mandate of the WFRHB Act. I would also address counties and cities.

Duration for Phase 4: One month.

Total Time Required: Three months.

The robust aim of Reserve Design is to restore wild horses and burros where they belong throughout America and to secure their long-term future. This would, in effect, restore the true and original intent of the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971.

Call me CRAZY, call me TOO SENSITIVE.  Call me AN ACTIVIST.  Call me AN ADVOCATE…..Call me ANGRY, FRUSTRATED, DISGUSTED, APPALLED, FED UP, DISCOURAGED!!!

Call me whatever you like, but NEVER call me APATHETIC.  Never call me COMPLACENT.

Every single day, 24 hours a day, in the news there is something about the horrors inflicted on animals somewhere.  In our towns, our cities, our neighborhoods and across the globe.  Every day, 24 hours a day there is something about the destruction of habitat, our fresh waterways, our ozone layer, our overall environment. Perfect example is the decision of Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, despite the outcries of protest, to destroy the home of Lucky and Lily, the Lindsay Pond Beavers.  In response to the emails his offices received, a rather canned response was issued, I know I got the identical response others have received.

In the news every day, 24 hours a day, there are published accounts of man-kinds inhumanity against our own species.  Wars plague our planet, the fight for freedom and for democracy continues. Wars rage against   tyranny.  There are wars evolving around  religion, wars of politics, war for land, for resources, the subjugation of human rights and freedoms.  Wars are big business,  wars create jobs and make money for the politicians and the vast innumerable companies that manufacture arms of destruction.  Wars make humans disposable items, just as humans have made animals disposable, made our waterways, our lands disposable.

There are wars in our schools, wars in our neighborhoods, continued child abuse, spousal abuse, domestic violence is on the rise. Mutilators of animals turned mutilators of people.  Wars between drug lords, wars among street gangs, wars with our neighbors, wars in every single aspect of our lives.

The biggest war is our personal war to survive period., to pay our bills, to support and feed our families and to keep a roof over our heads, to cover medical costs and to just get through each day as best we can.

Unfortunately far too many do not, far too many just say to hell with it, suicides are on the rise, addictions are on the rise, mental illness is on the rise, murder/suicides are on the rise.  People are snapping, losing it, you see it every day in the newscasts.

Is it me or has all of mankind inhabiting this beautiful planet gone absolutely mad??

From the continuing Middle East crisis, that has not changed over the centuries, nor will it ever;  the Euro catastrophe;  the issues here at home and pretty much everywhere:  the rising cost of living, the rising unemployment, the rising interest rates, the famine and crop failures coupled with increasing droughts in some countries, the increased natural disasters across the globe, the negative health effects suffered by First Nations and others due to Canada’s dirty oil and planned expansion in Alberta…the millions of taxpayer dollars ill spent by our politicians in their continuing bid to ensure Canada’s sealing industry continues, the unwanted pipelines that pose risk to our environment, wildlife and communities are pushed through;  the continued Canadian importation of US horses for slaughter, the continued horrific slaughter of Canadian horses, the devastating cruelty in  Factory Farms and the horrific suffering of these animals in fires due to the lack of proper safeguards.   The violation of human rights here at home and around the globe.

Add to the above the lack of affordable housing, cuts to social programs, the lack of proper health care in Northern communities…increased taxes, hungry children across our land…and MOST of all the deaf ears of politicians to the voices of the people….MY GOD, where will it all end???

Here in Canada, Harper has gutted Environmental Protection despite the loud voices of protest across this country.    Revenue Canada is now charged with the responsibility to pull Charitable Status from any organization that speaks out against the policies of Harper’s Government.

Here in Canada, unless one is independently wealthy or has a substantial nest egg, Canadians are now being forced to retire at age 67 rather than at 65.  Is this a ploy to ensure that Canada Pension will remain in the coffers of government….that hopefully many of us will be dead before we are able to collect the benefits which we have paid into all of our working careers??

Would it not be nice if our politicians stopped wasting our tax dollars on propaganda campaigns hoping to lull us into a false sense of security as well as attempting to lift EU bans that are in place on Sealing products or attempts to convince countries outside of Canada to by dirty oil?  Or to fulfill personal agendas? Or to waste our money on all the fixings for the last G Summit held in Toronto?  Or to launch insulting campaigns against each other during the election process?  Count the many ways your tax dollars are wasted…can anyone count that high?

Wow, then there would be money for all our Pensions, all of our health care needs and social programs.

We would not have needed the “Black out. Speak Out” campaign!! that so many participated in across our country.

Oops, did I say that…am I provoking thought…oops again.

Throughout human history, we have an extremely dismal past.  If anything the centuries clearly show that despite our so-called technical advances, our medical miracles discovered, we have failed miserably as an overall species to live in harmony with each other and the world around us.

Everything we have ever come in contact with, including each other, our environment, our wildlife, every living organism on this planet, has been manipulated, controlled and destroyed due to a superiority complex infused with ego, greed and a self centered pathology.

My favorite phrase (put more politely) is that if one does not like what I have to say, does not wish to know the truth, then one can walk away.  Calling it as I see it, and voicing my personal opinion (as everyone has the right to do) often creates a great deal of controversy, at times negative, however it also provokes thought.

All of us are on the brink, that very fine thin line and unless there is extremely positive action to reverse the centuries of accumulated damage to human thinking, the human misconceptions and current way of life, society today across the globe will go the way of the Aztec, the Mayan, the Roman Empire, and the Egyptian Empire just to name a few.  All great civilizations in their own right, that by their own actions, produced their decline and extinction.

I am not a harbinger of doom…..I see the reality…I do not have my head stuck in the sand…I shout from the rooftops, I reach out, try to educate as best I can.

Each and every one of us, has within us an untapped strength and the ability to make positive change in any area and or issue that we now face on a global scale.  Each and every one of us has the Free Will to do so, to take a Positive Stand, to Reach Out, to Shout Loudly not only through our words but also our Actions.

What are you prepared to do?  Are you prepared to join those of us who continue to fight the good fight against unfair odds?  If so I applaud you, if so I am grateful to you!

My dearest mother and sole living relative asked me what I wanted for my coming birthday…my answer..to just once listen to the radio, or watch TV news broadcasts, or pick up a newspaper where there were very real Happy Stories instead of the continued barrage of doom and gloom.

Imagine a news broadcast that featured only good things?  Is that at all even possible?

Here is one bad story with what is hoped will be a happy ending for one severely injured cat.

Wild for Life Foundation

Los Angeles, CA

June 27, 2012

Wild for Life Foundation is pleased to announce the release of its brand new Flash media PSA, ” Justice for America’s Horses“,  a public service announcement to raise awareness about the cruelty of horse slaughter. The 1 minute PSA comes in the wake of the recent push by foreign investors to expand a niche market for horsemeat sold as a delicacy abroad.
History proves that USDA inspections fail to stop the insidious crimes of cruelty inside America’s slaughterhouses. Substantial evidence as documented by numerous governmental reports and undercover investigations reveal egregious violations and a total lack of enforcement by the USDA before horse slaughter plants were shut down in 2007. “If horse slaughter plants are reopened in the U.S., horses will undoubtedly suffer torturous agony on U.S. soil again,” states Katia Louise, President of Wild for Life Foundation.  “The new PSA, JUSTICE FOR AMERICA’S HORSES drives this point home through use of FOIA documentation previously suppressed by the USDA.”
“Foreign slaughterers want the U.S. government to ignore the resounding opposition to horse slaughter by 80% of the American people, and instead give them our hard earned tax dollars to set up new killing shops in the heart of our home town communities.”
As quoted from the PSA, “It doesn’t have to be this way. Federal protection is possible when you take a stand. Tell your policymakers to right the wrong by supporting the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.
JUSTICE FOR AMERICA’S HORSES was made possible by generous in kind contributions to Wild for Life Foundation from IMA Studios, Maria Daines, Paul Killington, Animal Law Coalition, Kaufman Zoning, Animals Angels & John Holland.
